Juicy salad with homemade tahini

Salad for two people or one really hungry one 🙂
One small head of lettuce
Bunch of dark colored garden greens
2 tomatoes
4-5 radishes
2 cucumbers
One small head of cauliflower
4-6 tablespoons of tahini (see recipe below)

Cut lettuce, garden greens, tomatoes, radishes, one cucumber and half of the cauliflower into bite size pieces. Shred the rest of the cauliflower and another cucumber. Add tahini and mix all ingredients in a bowl. Enjoy!

Tahini
Soak 1 cup of sesame seeds overnight. Drain water, put seeds in the powerful blender. Add a little water to help it blend. You can also add some cumin, hot pepper or other fresh spices to taste. We prefer to leave it salt-free. If you choose to add salt, it will help to preserve your tahini longer, but be careful, use only unprocessed salt and in minimum quantities, because it can cause you water retention and other health problems.

Healing power of Love

Love can be very healing and you don’t have to look for it outside, you have all the love you need right in your heart. Endorphin makes you feel more happy and joyful. It is also a natural pain-killer. Endorphin takes away depression and mood swings. Our bodies are producing this hormone when we feel in love, when we exercise or just feeling happy about everything.

Healing through fasting

If you have serious problems with health or you simply want to feel and look younger, there is a simple way to give your body a chance for healing and rejuvenating. But you can’t find much honest information about that in the mainstream media, because no industry can really make money on it. This effective, generally safe1 and totally free method is a short-term fasting. But you need to remember that it will only work if you permanently improve your diet. Also, fasting is not the best way to become slim in a long term. The best way to get fit is regular exercise and high carbohydrate raw vegan lifestyle.

Worries about fasting

Some people may be worried about being hungry while fasting. But that kind of “hunger” usually appears within 3-4 hours after last meal, while the body still has more than enough energy and even food in their digestive tract. Usually there is enough glucose in the body to keep you energized for 12 hours, and it is usually completely burned only after 24 hours of fasting. After about 19 hours of fasting the body begins to use body fat as an energy source.

You also don’t have to worry about losing muscle on fasting. If you do a regular weight-bearing exercise you can preserve all your muscle even on a longer fast. Research has clearly shown that fasting for as long as 72 hours does not cause an increased breakdown in your muscle, nor does it slow down muscle protein synthesis.6 Body’s ability to conserve it’s vital tissues like muscle and organs is a result of evolution and it is there to protect our bodies from damage during periods of food scarcity.

Many people believe that fasting can slow down their metabolism, but studies show, that 3 days of straight fasting does not decrease or slow metabolism.7

In other study researchers found that 24 hour fasting had no negative effects on reaction time, recall or focused attention time.8

You also don’t have to worry about getting ‘low blood sugar’. Studies show that human’s body is amazingly effective at regulating the amount of sugar in the blood while fasting, unless person have drug-treated diabetes.9

Generally, up to 3 day fasting should be safe for most people, but we recommend to start slowly – first skipping just one meal, then one day of fasting per week and only then go to 3 day fasting. Iron on a raw vegan diet

Any deficiency might be the result of bad digestion, which was in turn created by mucus forming foods. So even more importantly then adding something to our menu, we need to make sure that our diet is clean of chemicals, gluten, animal protein and ideally, of all or at least most of the cooked food. Then, by adding variety of fresh fruit, dark greens, veggies, nuts and seeds we will take our absorption of all nutrition on a whole new level.

Iron plays very important role in our body. It is a main part of hemoglobin that is responsible for carrying oxygen throughout the body. Anemia caused by iron deficiency is a common health problem in most of the counties and it is especially common in children and in young women.

There are two forms of iron found in food, heme and non-heme iron. Heme iron, which is found only in animal products has a higher absorption levels then non-heme iron found in plants (fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds). However, if food also contains vitamin C, it increases non-heme iron absorption up to six-fold which makes the absorption of non-heme iron as good or better than that of heme iron.1 Also, please remember, that tannins found in tea and coffee and calcium supplements reduce iron absorption.2

Research shows that iron deficiency anemia is no more common among vegans than among the general population.3,4 In fact, there are many iron-rich vegan foods to enjoy and there is no need to suffer from deficiency. If you compare vegan and non-vegan foods by the amount of iron per calorie, vegan foods are certainly superior to animal sources. To get the amount of iron we are getting from 100 calories of spinach, one would need to eat 1700 calories of steak.

The best sources of iron would be those, which are rich in both, iron and vitamin C, such as mulberries, spinach, dandelion greens, broccoli, kale, plums and other dark colored greens, fruits and veggies.

Iron Requirements

The Food and Nutrition Board at the Institute of Medicine recommends the following: 5
